ABOUT THE AUTHOR

​Christopher Thomson lived in Beirut as a Canadian diplomat in the early 1970s at the start of his thirty-two-year career. He subsequently served as Counsellor for Political Affairs on the Canadian delegation to the UN in New York and, later, on the delegation to the UN in Geneva.

His diplomatic career also included serving in Hong Kong, as Deputy Permanent Representative to the OECD in Paris, as Consul General in the US, and as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates as well as senior positions in Ottawa in Global Affairs Canada and the Privy Council Office.

He is retired and lives in Vancouver, British Columbia with his wife, Katrina, a former Canadian diplomat and educator.  Of his five children, two were born in the Middle East.
